One of the finest seventeenth century country houses in the south of England, Lower Slaughter Manor is Grade II star listed and stands in complete tranquillity in its own private grounds on the edge of the beautiful Cotswold village of Lower Slaughter. Within the walled garden is a unique two storey dovecote dating back to the 15th century, when the Manor was a convent, and next door is the lovely village church. Lower Slaughter Manor was largely rebuilt in 1658 by the acclaimed stonemason Valentine Strong, whose son was later to become chief stonemason for St Paul’s Cathedral under the direction of Sir Christopher Wren. Its history dates back nearly 1,000 years and it is known that a Manor House stood on the site before the Norman Conquest.
