Responding to the accelerating popularity of private motorsport facilities, the International Center for Advanced Racing (ICAR) opened its doors in the Spring of 2008. ICAR is private racing country club (think of a posh golf club but without the golf) and the first of its kind in Canada. Unlike the NASCAR experience (designed for crowds and massive events), ICAR provides an intimate, ultracool playground for people with very expensive wheeled toys (high performance cars, formula cars, and Karts). Its location, only twenty minutes outside Montreal, at the Mirabel Airport, makes it one of the closest racetracks in the world to a major city— as well as helicopter and plane accessible. ICAR members enjoy the rush of unlimited track time along with privileged access to ICAR Club’s many pleasures. At a clubhouse overlooking the property, members can socialize with enthusiasts and professional drivers alike. They may savor delectable food and drinks in the restaurant and lounge, or relax in the spa. Members gain VIP access to special events, valet service for their cars, and peace of mind knowing their vehicles are secure in monitored garages. The ICAR track design (built to FIA standards) build with the input from professional drivers and well-known instructors. In a stroke of brilliant recycling, the pristine driving surface required was found by reclaiming some of the vast concrete surfaces no longer used by the airport. ICAR’s 3.8-km multi-configuration circuit (which can be altered in well over 100 challenging formations) and 1-km high-performance Karting Circuit are surrounded by 5 km of safety barriers and wide run-off areas. The tracks are brightly lit for night racing and monitored by a race-control centre with remote controlled cameras, as well as complex traffic lighting systems. In case of an accident, AirMédic, the rapid response paramedic helicopter service, (whose permanent home is on site atMirabelAirport) is only minutes away. Firefighters based at the airport are likewise on call for ICAR, offering incomparable protection.
