The Best of L.A.: Luxury and Culture Co-Exist..

April 19, 2014 No Comments 0

Los Angeles is known best as the international Mecca for film and glamour, however, beauty is only skin-deep, and L.A. has more to offer than that. Culture, culinary ambition and creativity meet to form an exciting vacation spot with divine weather and much to explore. RESTAURANTS My personal favorite restaurant (anywhere, as a matter of fact) is Il Pastaio, an Italian gem. Owned by the Drago family, Il Pastaio boasts delicious food and a fine clientele on a not-so-inconspicuous, perfect-for-people-watching corner in Beverly Hills. I recommend going there for lunch and trying their amazing salads, especially the Vegetariana, and their Mezzelune, a homemade lobster ravioli dish. Another fabulous Beverly Hills restaurant just around the corner is Villa Blanca, owned by reality TV star and restauranteur, Lisa Vanderpump. The restaurant is popular for its stylish décor and patio, perfect for people watching due to its central location in Beverly Hills. The menu is a fusion of Mediterranean, Italian and Asian food concocted by Executive Chef Francis Dimitrius. Vanderpump also co-owns another trendy restaurant, Sur, located in Hollywood. Another celebrity restauranteur, Wolfgang Puck, owns several Beverly Hills staples, including Spago and steakhouse Cut in The Beverly Wilshire (a Four Seasons hotel). Power breakfasters will enjoy the early morning scene at Barney Greengrass Restaurant, situated on the fifth-floor of Barneys New York on Wilshire Boulevard. Open at 8:30 a.m., this restaurant is the hottest place for agents and other Hollywood who’s who. Barney Greengrass is known for its sturgeon and bagels and has a beautiful terrace overlooking Beverly Hills. Sit at the communal table to overhear the best gossip. Another upscale restaurant, Mariposa is just down the street in Neiman Marcus, and perfect for refueling during a day of rigorous shopping. Though their popovers are most famous, many Beverly Hills ladies who...

The Best of St. Tropez..

April 19, 2014 No Comments 0

SUMMER IN ST.TROPEZ Like St. Barths, St. Tropez is an exquisite travel destination and one that appeals to a similar crowd. The main differences between the two are their accessibility (St. Tropez is part of mainland France, and thus easier to reach), humidity and unofficial dress code. While St. Barths is much beachier, St. Tropez is a dressier and more crowded destination. Both places are under French dominion, conduct themselves mostly in French and use the Euro. RESTAURANTS Possibly the most famous restaurant in St. Tropez (though it is actually in neighboring Ramatuelle) is Club 55. Located on a beautiful beach, the restaurant is half beach club/half seating. Club 55 was made famous by bombshell Brigitte Bardot, who extolled its virtues. When filming And God Created Woman, Bardot and her film crew discovered this gem. The name stems from the year this happened – 1955. The restaurant is still in the family, currently owned by Patrice de Colmont. Diners will love, the classic crudités dish for the whole table, my personal favorite thing on the menu. It consists of delicious, homegrown vegetables (so fresh you’ll want to discipline them) and a perfect accompanying dip. Whole tomatoes, carrots, radishes and other vegetables come on this enormous healthy platter. The restaurant also serves delicious fresh fish – as well as many other dishes – and has a wonderful dessert menu. There is plenty to enjoy at Club 55 besides the food; the people watching will attract even the most oblivious. Also in the town of Ramatuelle and about three miles’ drive from St. Tropez is Restaurant Tropicana. There are three Michelin-starred restaurants within four kilometers of St. Tropez. Villa Belrose and La Badiane each have one star. The third, located in The Résidence de la Pinède Hotel, is called La Vague d’Or....

The Best of St. Barths..

April 17, 2014 No Comments 0

An Amazing French Destination There are many excellent things about France, not the least of which are the wine, the exquisite palate, and first-class destinations: Meet St. Barthélemy (St. Barths). WINTER IN ST. BARTHS Wintering in St. Barths, French West Indies is the perfect antidote to life everywhere else. Between December and April (but especially around Christmas and New Year’s) the island welcomes media moguls and the uber-rich, who flock to St. Barths for its beautiful beaches and relaxed atmosphere. For those whose presence attracts attention and paparazzi, St. Barths is the perfect getaway. For the rest of us, St. Barths is just as attractive a destination. Superlative views, dining, shopping and indoor-outdoor living combine to create a luxury vacation in a tropical setting. Paradoxically, the island is both a haven where you can enjoy complete solitude, and a scene with vibrant nightlife and people watching. WHERE TO STAY Luxury meets elegance at St. Barths’ five-star hotels. Eden Rock Hotel, located on beautiful St. Jean Beach, was initially purchased by its present owners to be their personal home; however, the couple, David and Jane Matthews, instead created a blissful hotel. Seventeen years later, Eden Rock is part of The Relais & Châteaux group, which has been scouting excellence in restaurants and hotels for over 50 years. Le Sereno is another excellent option designed by top interior designer Christian Liaigre. With its warm tones and stunning setting on the Grand Cul de Sac, the hotel is boutique at its finest. Book one of the 37 suites or stay in one of three private villas, each with over 7500 square feet (697 square metres) of space. You’ll be counted among glitterati guests such as Valentino, Max Azria, Victoria Secret models, Uma Thurman, Jay-Z and Beyoncé. Guests will also enjoy the Hotel St. Barth...

Da Emma Montreal’s finest Italian restaurant..

April 16, 2014 No Comments 0

Da Emma is a Montreal restaurant experience you just mustn’t miss Located in the former women’s prison at 777 rue de la Commune West in Old Montreal, it’s a meeting place for all Hollywood stars who visit our city—from Richard Gere to Halle Berry, Johnny Depp to Di Caprio, from Angelina Jolie to Steven Spielberg. The photos that welcome you on the walls will give you a bird’s-eye view of who’s been here. And all these celebrities, when they mention Montreal’s fine dining places, always talk about Da Emma. As Emma Risa is not only a Blue Ribbon Chef, but also one of the most remarkable women in Montreal. So the first thing the stars do, when they get to the restaurant, is come and hug this star of exquisite meals, right in her own kitchen! And they sure have good reason to do so, as her cooking—in the very greatest tradition of Roman gourmet cuisine—truly achieves an outstanding level of excellence. Just a taste of her agnolotti, medaglioni, ravioli, fettucini ai funghi porcini, her divine ossobuco or her delicious fish dishes is all you need for you, too, to become a regular of this restaurant that has transplanted the gastronomic cuisine of Little Italy to Old Montreal. Among the other pleasures of the palate that must be sampled are the seafood antipasti and the milk-fed pig roasted in garlic and rosemary. But please keep a bit of room for Emma’s home-made tiramisu. You won’t regret it! And in one word or one hundred, a meal at Da Emma is a memorable culinary experience. In fact, here you will savour delectable home-cooked dishes that will no doubt remind you of your own Momma’s cooking, in a magnificent Roman setting highlighted by stone pillars from the old prison and wooden beams. The restaurant’s flower-decorated terrace for summer dining will also delight you. So...

Napa Valley’s Auberge du Soleil..

April 16, 2014 No Comments 0

Luxury California Living at Napa Valley’s Auberge du Soleil California living is touted as relaxed and glamorous with an added amenity of five-star service. Born into this tradition in 1981, Auberge du Soleil quickly blossomed from a high-end restaurant into one of the most exclusive and luxurious NapaValley retreats. Situated in Rutherford, California, the inn offers romance through its spectacular views and private indoor-outdoor spaces, tranquility through its deluxe spa and culture through its Michelin-starred restaurant and sculpture garden. The I. Wolk Sculpture Gallery is a collection of over 100 works of art, spread out across the auberge’s 33-acres and curated by Ma(i)sonry NapaValley. This feature is the perfect fusion of natural and man-made aesthetics. A meander through this well-cultivated artistic garden is just one of the many romantic activities on offer. If the fresh, culinary endeavors of California are more of a draw, dine alfresco on the auberge’s panoramic terrace and enjoy highly recommended dishes including local lamb with olives and lobster salad. Managing Partner, George Goeggel, has been with Auberge du Soleil for 25 years. Besides wining and dining, he recommends private yoga lessons in the auberge’s Japanese Pavillion, a curated art tour or a cooking demo. When asked how the auberge exceeds the luxury quotient of other NapaValley accommodations, Goeggel extolls the staff’s “attention to detail and personalized access to the secrets of NapaValley”. The most luxurious accommodation onsite is the Maison Saint-Tropez, an eight-room villa that features outdoor showers and a private garden. The interior space of this Riviera-inspired suite was designed by Suzanne Tucker, named by Architectural Digest as one of the AD100 Top Designers of the World. This choice of designer is in keeping with the inn’s haute quality, ensured by its status as a member of the Relais & Châteaux and Auberge...

The Best of Aspen..

March 30, 2014 No Comments 0

COLORADO ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH If there is a Heaven then it is at 7908 ft. (2410m) and goes by the name of Aspen, Colorado. Celebrity haunt and first class destination of the wealthy, Aspen is a name often seen in the pages of magazines as diverse as Architectural Digest, Vogue and Travel and Leisure. Reputed as a top ski resort, it is not only a paradise during the ski season (mid-November to April) but a year-round haven. Locals swear the Aspen area is, in fact, even more beautiful in the summer. And skiing is absolutely not the last word, though Aspen boasts four mountains – Snowmass, Buttermilk, AspenHighlands and AspenMountain – with exquisite skiing. Jeff Hanle is the Director of Public Relations of the Aspen Skiing Company, which owns the four resorts. I asked Hanle why visitors should pick Aspen over other notable Colorado ski resorts. “Aspen/Snowmass has four mountains and two distinctly different towns. Aspen has a soul and depth that can only be found in a town that was a town first, then became a resort. The quality and variety of dining, arts, culture and shopping is unmatched by any ski resort in North America,” he said.
